Derrick completed his first year as House District 34 State Representative in 2025. Here’s a snapshot of what he accomplished.

NOTABLE LEGISLATION

State Rep. Hall is laser-focused on working with  colleagues across both ends of the spectrum to pass meaningful legislation that improves the lives of Ohioans and enables our state to thrive. Below is a sampling of the 140 bills Derrick sponsored or cosponsored during his first year in office.

PASSED INTO LAW:

  • Cosponsored HB 29 – Requires menstruating inmates have access to feminine hygiene products and daily showers
  • Cosponsored SB 114 – Prohibits law enforcement from using quotas for arrests, citations 
  • Cosponsored HB 114 – Changes the date by which a child must turn 5 to be admitted to kindergarten from Sept. 30 to the first day of instruction 
  • Cosponsored SB 138 – Requires ADAMHS boards (alcohol, drug addiction and mental health services) that receive complaints about abuse and neglect at residential facilities outside their districts to refer those complaints to the appropriate ADAMHS board for investigation.
  • Cosponsored HB 184 – Provides protections to intercollegiate athletes from exploitive NIL contracts
  • Cosponsored HB 247 – Redefines what constitutes a nuisance, dangerous and vicious dog and applies penalties to owners whose dogs engage in an unprovoked attack.

 

STILL IN PLAY: 

  • Sponsored HB 365 – Would provide a tax credit on property taxes for homeowners whose property taxes exceed 5% of their income. (In House committee)
  • Cosponsored HB 47 – Increases the penalties for kidnapping and mandatory prison terms for human trafficking where the purpose is to engage in sexual exploitation (Passed by House)
  • Cosponsored HB 88 – Increases the penalties and changes requirements for charging the trafficking of cocaine, fentanyl-related compounds, heroin, and methamphetamine. It also requires schools to provide age-appropriate instruction on the dangers of fentanyl (Passed by House)
  • Cosponsored HB 102 – Restricts sex offenders from living within 2,000 feet of their victim’s home or loitering within 1,000 feet of the victim’s residence. (Passed by House)
  • Cosponsored HB 133 – Authorizes a nonrefundable income tax credit for small employers that offer their employees an individual coverage health reimbursement plan. (Passed by House)
  • Cosponsored HB 303 Would establish a Community Energy Pilot Program to generate electricity using solar, wind, biomass, landfill gas, or hydroelectric power, or uses a microturbine, natural gas-fired generator, energy storage system, or a fuel cell and meets certain other requirements. (Passed by House)
